Empowered Women Rise: A Community Transformation Story

Women in Noco, Rewa, are making significant strides in their community efforts, as highlighted by their active participation in various initiatives. Adi Asilika Lalawa, the leader of the local women’s organization, emphasized their commitment to improving their overall situation.

This women’s organization has roots that stretch back many years, although it has not always thrived like others. In the past, they have regularly attended the Women Expo, where they gained valuable knowledge and skills. The current year shows renewed enthusiasm as their organization expands.

Around 30 women from the village engage in regular meetings every Monday to collaborate on various projects. They consistently receive support, which includes approximately 50 items of assistance for their group initiatives.

Despite facing challenges, such as different perspectives and negative attitudes towards women, the group is now focused on overcoming these issues and promoting a business-friendly mindset.

The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) recently provided help to the women’s group, which they greatly appreciated. This assistance came after ADRA visited their area a few weeks ago, where they requested basic supplies and tools for their activities.

ADRA has been instrumental in supporting the provision of essential food items and other resources, helping the group deepen their efforts. The women have also started utilizing a piece of land next to their meeting house to enhance their agricultural productivity.

The efforts of ADRA have fostered a more dynamic women’s organization, and they are keen on increasing their market presence. They are also receiving training through ADRA to learn better agricultural practices and to manage their facilities.

Many women still face significant challenges in their efforts and have been patient with their progress, especially as they start to notice improvements in their organization. They have been encouraged to interact with other groups to broaden their understanding and enhance knowledge-sharing.
