Food rations provided by the government are set to begin as soon as tomorrow for those in evacuation centres located in the Western Division. Currently, there are four active evacuation centres that are housing 61 households and a total of 234 individuals. These centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

These centres have been receiving generous donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various community organizations, including faith-based institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. Moreover, the Fiji Red Cross has supplied dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres, underscoring the collaborative effort to support those affected.

As a precautionary measure, public advisories have been issued, highlighting the importance of being prepared and avoiding unnecessary risks. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are actively managing the situation, while other divisions also monitor weather conditions closely.

A Flood Warning is currently in effect for areas that are vulnerable to flooding, particularly near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Furthermore, a Flood Alert has been issued for flood-prone areas adjacent to all major rivers across Fiji.

Police are on standby, ready to assist in the evacuation of residents if the need arises. The public is highly encouraged to evacuate promptly if directed and to do so during daylight hours for safety purposes.

For assistance, residents can reach out to:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261
– Local Police Station for emergencies.

In summary, the community is mobilizing resources and services to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by potential flooding, showcasing the strength and resilience of the local response to natural disasters. Such efforts highlight the importance of solidarity and readiness in times of crisis, providing hope for a swift recovery.
