A total of 61 families in the Western Division of Fiji received food rations yesterday, as part of ongoing support for those in evacuation centers. Apolosi Lewaqai, the Commissioner for the Western Division, highlighted the focus on delivering aid to families in Nadi, specifically those located in Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group office.
According to Mr. Lewaqai, the distribution of food is in line with their guidelines, which state that rations are provided to evacuees 48 hours after their evacuation. He mentioned that teams were already preparing the food packages for these families, with plans to complete distribution shortly.
In addition to food distribution, teams have been deployed to conduct assessments of affected homes and evaluate the residual damage. Despite the current sunny weather, the Fiji Meteorological Service has warned of impending rain due to a band of clouds expected to linger over the country in the coming days.
Mr. Lewaqai also noted that all relevant agencies have been updated on the preliminary damage assessments, and efforts will concentrate on comprehensive evaluations after the disaster to ascertain the level of assistance needed by the impacted communities.
This response showcases the commitment of local agencies to assist those in need, while also preparing for changing weather conditions, ensuring that support continues for the affected families in a timely manner.
Summary: In response to challenging weather conditions, 61 families in the Western Division of Fiji are receiving food rations and support from local agencies. Preparations are underway to complete distribution of food, while assessments of damages will inform future assistance efforts.
