Electoral Commission Shake-Up: Who’s Taking the Lead Now?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the resignation of Barbara Malimali from her position as Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC). Rabuka, in his capacity as Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC), received an email from the Solicitor-General, who acts as the COC Secretariat, confirming the resignation at 8:17 am on Saturday, September 14. This announcement follows a recent newspaper article reporting on Malimali’s resignation. The Prime Minister also mentioned that she has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
