Elderly Man Charged with Rape of Minor Among Several Cases Handled by ODPP

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has charged a 79-year-old man with one count of alleged rape and indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl.

According to the ODPP Rape and Sexual Offences Statistics for June 2024, there was an incident where a 59-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 15-year-old niece.

In another case, a 40-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 19-year-old niece. Additionally, a 33-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 15-year-old niece.

The ODPP noted that a 42-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 42-year-old wife, though this case was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

A 20-year-old man has been charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl, and a 38-year-old man was charged with the rape and indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl from his village.

One incident involved an 18-year-old man being charged with the defilement of a 14-year-old girl.

The ODPP reported that four cases were discontinued after Nolle Prosequi filings because of insufficient and inconsistent evidence, the inability to contact or locate victims, or the death of the accused individuals.
