The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, has promised that temporary solutions will be implemented for the teachers and students of Deshbandhu Vitogo Primary School in Lautoka, which was recently affected by a fire. The fire, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in the destruction of the school office, four classrooms, and the computer lab.
During a visit to the school alongside Assistant Minister of Education, Iliesa Vanawalu, and Permanent Secretary, Selina Kuruleca, Nalumisa noted that the National Fire Authority was able to protect the library, Early Childhood Education classrooms, and toilets from the flames.
Temporary arrangements will see Early Childhood Education students remaining in their classrooms while students in years 3, 4, 7, and 8 will utilize a tent provided by UNICEF. Additionally, Nalumisa stated that teachers and students will receive counseling and psycho-social support throughout this week.
Currently, an investigation by the police and the National Fire Authority is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
