The Ministry of Home Affairs plans to carry out an internal restructuring and reform of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) to ensure efficiency. The reforms will involve establishing the Joint Logistics Command and implementing Automated Logistics Management Systems.
During a debate on the 2024-2025 National Budget in Parliament, Minister Responsible Pio Tikoduadua emphasized the RFMF’s unwavering commitment to protecting Fiji and aiding global peacekeeping efforts. These initiatives aim to streamline operations, cut costs, and bolster overall capability.
“Our naval division continues to safeguard our vast Exclusive Economic Zone and support maritime operations critical to our national security and economic interests. The surveillance of Fiji’s EEZ and the execution of maritime search and rescue missions are vital to our sovereignty and economic well-being,” Tikoduadua stated.
The Minister highlighted that this budget reflects the Government’s dedication to the safety, security, and prosperity of all Fijians. He noted that the Government’s holistic approach addresses immediate challenges while also planning for the future. This includes equipping the defense forces and police with state-of-the-art tools and technology to ensure they are prepared for any situation.
“The investment we make today will build a safer and more secure Fiji for tomorrow. A nation where businesses can thrive without fear of disruption, where communities are united and cohesive, and where every citizen feels protected and valued. This is our vision for Fiji – a vision of prosperity built on a foundation of security and stability,” Tikoduadua concluded.
