Flick Hygiene’s executive director, Mohammed Zakariah, emphasizes the importance of implementing a termite management program for homes affected by infestations. He argues that the initial investment in such a program is more cost-effective in the long run compared to the repair costs incurred from termite damage. Zakariah explains that termites can be sensitive and will relocate their feeding areas with the slightest disturbance, highlighting the need for careful application of the bait, which requires specific conditions to be effective.
David Chand, the director of administration at Flick Hygiene, also points out that the cost of the Exterminex bait is relatively low, making it accessible to those earning above the minimum wage. Currently, the company has received a list of 1,000 homes from Bio Security and has already treated over 200 homes in Lautoka. Follow-up checks on the termite baiting system’s effectiveness will occur two weeks after installation.
This proactive approach not only protects residents’ homes but also represents a significant step towards greater community awareness about pest management. With termites being a common problem, initiatives like this could lead to long-term solutions, and the affordability of the treatment reflects an encouraging trend in pest management accessibility for all homeowners.
