The Ministry of Education has announced that Year 13 students who wish to pursue a career in teaching will once again undergo interviews as part of the application process. This initiative, undertaken in partnership with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), aims to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training across Fiji.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro stressed the importance of a thorough selection process to attract talented and passionate individuals to the teaching profession. This decision aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which seeks to enhance collaboration among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education. The declaration’s focus is to ensure that graduates possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to thrive in classrooms throughout the country.
Students looking to apply for scholarships can do so under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which cover a range of Bachelor of Education courses, including specialized fields like Early Childhood Education, Counselling, and Industrial Arts. The deadline for submitting online applications to the TSLS is January 31, 2025, and successful candidates will be informed about their interview dates and locations through email and phone notifications.
This proactive step by the Ministry of Education not only aims to elevate the standard of teaching in Fiji but also ensures that aspiring educators are adequately evaluated and supported in their journey toward making a significant impact in the educational landscape.
Overall, this initiative reflects a commitment to strengthening education in Fiji, indicating a bright future for the teaching profession and a dedication to cultivating qualified educators who are prepared to inspire the next generation.
