Education Minister Calls for Urgent Meeting to Tackle USP Staff Concerns

The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, is planning to convene a Special Council Meeting of the University of the South Pacific (USP) involving Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad and Minister for Labour Agni Deo Singh. Radrodro aims to address various concerns, particularly the welfare of Fijian staff associated with USP.

He has brought the issue of terminated staff at USP to the attention of the Ministry of Employment. Radrodro expressed his commitment to resolving the matters raised, highlighting the importance of discussing the terminations and threats of strikes in the upcoming meeting.

The Minister emphasized the Government’s respect for the Prime Minister and other member countries of the USP Council, stressing the need for the university to operate smoothly while prioritizing the welfare of both teachers and students to foster a positive learning and work environment. He also mentioned that he is keeping the Prime Minister informed about developments related to USP.
