Eastern Zone Rugby Finals Security Measures Amidst recent Incidents.

The Eastern Zone Secondary Schools Rugby Union organizing committee will implement proactive measures in preparation for the finals of their Vodafone Deans competition.

This decision comes in response to a stoning incident last Friday, aiming to prevent any similar unruly behavior. The finals, ranging from under-14 to under-19 categories, will be held in Suva on Friday. The organizing committee, led by President Solomone Seru, will ensure comprehensive arrangements and accountability for all students and logistics.

“Everything prepared for the nationals, including officials and stakeholders, will be tested this week. The police and LTA will inspect all buses, monitor schools, and record all participating buses and their numbers. This data will be forwarded to the committee on Friday,” Seru explained.

Buses departing for the game venue must have a schoolteacher on board.

“The Ministry of Education has approved the supervision of all students by zone teachers. School heads will organize supervision lists for the finals, managing students from their departure to their return. At the grounds, each school will have designated teachers for supervision,” Seru added.

Seru also urged parents to assist in supervising students during the finals.

The finals are scheduled for Friday at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
