The annual East vs West golf tournament is scheduled for November 17 at the Fiji Golf Club, promising a thrilling day of competition. This one-day event will feature 36 holes of play across multiple divisions, including A, B, C, women’s, and junior categories.
Golf Fiji President Amitesh Chandra shared insights into the tournament structure, revealing that it will be held in two sessions. The morning will see teams engage in an Ambrose format, allowing pairs from each team to compete within their respective grades. In the afternoon, the format shifts to individual match play, where each win earns one point while draws are awarded half a point. The team accumulating the most points by the end of the day will be crowned the champion.
Chandra noted that Golf Fiji is investing $3,500 to fully cover the tournament’s expenses. “Our goal is to promote the game and foster healthy competition among golfers across the country,” he stated. He emphasized that events like this are crucial for bringing players together, aiding in skill development, and strengthening the golfing community.
Anticipation is building for the East vs West tournament, which is expected to be a fierce and spirited showdown as golfers of all ages and abilities showcase their talents.
This event not only highlights the passion for golf in Fiji but also reflects the community spirit that sports can cultivate. As players unite to compete, they will undoubtedly forge camaraderie and inspire one another, making the tournament a celebration of the sport.
