Duck Farm Expansion in Nausori Sparks Economic Growth

An investment of approximately $21,166 in the expansion of a duck farm on the outskirts of Nausori promises employment opportunities and economic development for the Koronasei settlement and surrounding communities.

Located behind Tumavia Village in Nakelo, along a tributary of the Rewa River, the farm is owned by Mr. Latchmi Narayan, a second-generation duck farmer with over eight years of experience in Animal Husbandry Management. He is focused on expanding his business to serve a growing clientele.

Rural and Maritime Development and Natural Disaster Management Minister, Sakiasi Ditoka, commissioned the farm expansion as part of batch 2 of Self-Help Project funding from the Government through the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management. Ditoka says this expansion promises a good return on investment, aiming to generate income and create employment.

The farm will serve a population of 161 within a 5-kilometer radius, including the Koronasei settlement and nearby communities. This initiative will also create job opportunities for local youth, improving community livelihoods and addressing SDG 1 to ‘End poverty in all its forms everywhere.’

The Minister also acknowledged the Commissioner Central’s office and stakeholders who supported the project from inception to completion.
