Twelve individuals were taken into custody over the past 48 hours for alleged illicit drug possession. Livai Driu, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, reported that authorities seized several plastic bags containing a white substance, thought to be methamphetamine, from a residence in Namara, Labasa, where three men were arrested.
Additionally, more than $1,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from illegal activities, was confiscated. In Lautoka, a 26-year-old man was apprehended after being found with two plastic bags containing white crystals, believed to be methamphetamine, as well as bullets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana.
In Rakiraki town, four men were arrested when officers discovered multiple sachets of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, along with several bags of white crystals that are believed to be methamphetamine. Two additional men were arrested in Lautoka for possessing sachets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana in separate incidents.
In Nadi, a 29-year-old man was also taken into custody after plants and seedlings suspected to be marijuana were found. This morning, police, assisted by K9 units, conducted a raid in Tavakubu, Lautoka, where they seized white substances believed to be methamphetamine. A 44-year-old man was arrested in connection with this operation.
The Assistant Commissioner indicated that police efforts are concentrated on disrupting the illegal drug trade across all five divisions. He urged the community to provide information to aid in reducing the supply of illicit drugs, emphasizing that every piece of information is valuable.
