Drug Raid in Labasa: Community Effort Uncovers Marijuana Supply

A raid on Wednesday afternoon in Wailevu, Labasa led to the discovery of multiple clear bags filled with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, stated that the successful operation was made possible through community information sharing, highlighting a positive community effort in fighting the illegal drug trade.

When the Northern Division task force arrived at the residence of a 24-year-old suspect, he allegedly attempted to dispose of the substances and fled toward the back of the property, where he was apprehended.

A thorough search of the premises uncovered several medium and small clear plastic bags containing the dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Alongside the 24-year-old, a 27-year-old man was also arrested at the scene.

The confiscated substances have been sent for further analysis.

Additionally, ACP Driu mentioned that divisional surge operations are being carried out at well-known youth hangout spots to address drug-related issues.

“We are removing individuals observed loitering, particularly in areas frequented by young people, as drug dealers often target them. This includes coverage of educational institutions, where we urge management to enhance monitoring of those who should not be on campus,” he added.

The police encourage anyone with information about the illegal drug trade to contact the Crime Stoppers 919 hotline, assuring that all shared information will be kept confidential.
