Police in Navua have arrested two men, both aged 35, after discovering dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine on their persons. The arrests were carried out as part of a series of police snap checks conducted across five divisions this month.

During the initial operation by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), officers found several sachets containing methamphetamine along with marijuana during a raid last Wednesday in Raiwai, just outside Suva City. In addition to drugs, police confiscated white substances suspected to be methamphetamine, items believed to be stolen, as well as foreign and local currencies. Alongside the two men, a woman was also arrested, and all seized items have been forwarded for further analysis.

Further police checks at a roadblock in Savusavu resulted in the discovery of a black bag containing dried leaves, confirmed to be marijuana, hidden in the luggage compartment of a bus. Additionally, two men were arrested on Monday night in the Western Division after officers at Sabeto Road, Nadi, found branches of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana in their possession.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, expressed optimism regarding the results of the snap checks, noting that the collaborative efforts of the police divisions would continue to yield positive outcomes in the fight against illegal substances.

This ongoing initiative underscores the commitment of law enforcement to maintain community safety and combat drug-related issues. The proactive approach in conducting these checks illustrates a focused strategy that not only targets drug trafficking but also addresses associated criminal activities.

In summary, these police efforts aim to enhance public safety by taking decisive action against illegal drug possession and trafficking, showcasing a determined drive to keep communities drug-free.
