Drug Bust: Twelve Arrested in Major Operation

Twelve individuals have been apprehended for possession of illegal drugs in recent operations. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that these arrests took place over the last 48 hours.

Driu noted that during a raid at a residence in Namara, Labasa, three men were taken into custody after police discovered several plastic bags containing white powder suspected to be methamphetamine. Additionally, over $1,000 in cash, believed to be from criminal activities, was confiscated.

In the Lautoka area of the Western Division, a 26-year-old man was also arrested when officers found two plastic bags containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine, as well as bullets of dried plant material thought to be marijuana.

Furthermore, four men were arrested in Rakiraki town after police found multiple sachets of dried leaves presumed to be marijuana and several bags of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine. Two more men were detained in Lautoka for possessing separate sachets of dried leaves identified as marijuana.

In a separate incident in Nadi, a 29-year-old man was arrested for having marijuana plants and seedlings. This morning, a police team, including K9 officers, conducted a raid in Tavakubu, Lautoka, where they seized substances believed to be methamphetamine and arrested a 44-year-old man.

ACP Driu emphasized that law enforcement is committed to disrupting and dismantling the illicit drug trade, with operations actively taking place across all five divisions. He encouraged the public to provide information to aid in reducing drug supply, reminding them to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 919.
