Police in the Northern Division have made significant progress in tackling drug-related offenses, with five individuals arrested over the course of two days. This update was provided by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.
On Friday, December 27, authorities conducted a raid at a residence in Naweni Village, Savusavu, where they discovered branches of what is believed to be marijuana. Following the discovery, a male suspect was taken into custody, and the seized dried leaves are currently undergoing analysis.
The following day, Saturday, police continued their operations in Labasa, resulting in the arrest of four individuals in various locations. Among those arrested was a 50-year-old businessman who was found with two sachets containing dried leaves presumed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. A 20-year-old student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was also apprehended with a similar sachet.
Additionally, at Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman were caught with various items, including a jar and sachet filled with what is suspected to be marijuana. All seized materials have been sent for analysis, and police await results.
ACP Driu emphasized that police will persist in conducting drug raids and special operations throughout this festive season, highlighting the continuous efforts to curb drug-related activities.
