Police in the Northern Division have arrested five individuals in connection with drug-related offenses over the past two days, including a 50-year-old businessman. This information was confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.
On Friday, December 27, officers discovered marijuana plants at a residence in Naweni Village, Savusavu. A male suspect was apprehended at the scene, and the collected evidence of dried leaves is currently undergoing analysis.
The following day, Saturday, four more arrests were made in various locations across Labasa. In Tuatua, a 50-year-old businessman was caught with two sachets of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 20-year-old male student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was also found in possession of a similar sachet.
Authorities at Naduna Settlement arrested a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman with a combination of sealed plastic bags and jars containing marijuana.
All seized substances have been sent for forensic analysis, with results pending. ACP Driu emphasized that police will intensify drug raids and special operations during this festive season.
This proactive approach by law enforcement highlights their commitment to maintaining public safety and combating illegal drug activities, especially during a time when communities come together to celebrate.
