In a significant drug operation over the weekend, police apprehended five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, in the Northern Division. This announcement was made by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.
On December 27, officers discovered what appeared to be marijuana leaves hanging inside a residence in Naweni Village, Savusavu. Following this find, a male suspect was detained, and the dried leaves have been collected for further analysis.
The following day, four additional arrests were made in various locations in Labasa. In Tuatua, authorities arrested a businessman who was found with two sachets of dried marijuana leaves, which were wrapped in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 20-year-old student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was caught with another sachet of similar contents.
Further investigations at Naduna Settlement led to the discovery of a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman in possession of various containers holding dried leaves believed to contain marijuana. All seized materials have been sent for analysis.
Assistant Commissioner Driu emphasized that the police will persist with drug raids and special operations throughout the festive season, aiming to tackle drug-related offenses effectively.
