Thirteen individuals were taken into custody yesterday for possessing illegal drugs during a series of police operations. Among them were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard, who were apprehended at the Nadonumai Roadblock while carrying small plastic bags containing white crystals.
In a separate incident in Waiyavi, Lautoka, four people were arrested when police conducted a raid on their residence. Officers discovered white crystals, smoking implements, and cash suspected to be linked to drug sales.
Additionally, a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto was arrested at Sanasana Ground after police found him with six bags of white crystals. A 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, was apprehended at the Ciri Junction Bus shelter for possessing seven branches of what is believed to be marijuana.
The crackdown continued with a 46-year-old farmer from Navosa, who was arrested at the Nadi Bus Stand for having 161 branches of marijuana plants and cash thought to be proceeds from drug sales. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was taken into custody at the Ba Market Area after being found with eight sachets of dried leaves, which were wrapped in aluminum foil and suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu stated that these arrests are part of their initial efforts for the Festive Season campaign, signaling that law enforcement intends to continue this initiative with further arrests anticipated.
