A total of 13 individuals were apprehended yesterday for possession of illegal drugs. Among those arrested were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard at the Nadonumai Roadblock, where small plastic bags containing white crystals were discovered in their possession.
In a targeted operation in Waiyavi, Lautoka, four individuals were arrested after police executed a search warrant at their residence, uncovering white crystals, drug smoking devices, and cash suspected to be the proceeds from drug sales. Meanwhile, a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto was taken into custody at Sanasana Ground for having six bags filled with white crystals.
Additionally, a 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, was arrested at the Ciri Junction Bus Shelter for possessing seven branches of a plant believed to be marijuana. A 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was detained at the Nadi Bus Stand after being found with 161 branches of cannabis and cash linked to drug sales. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was caught at Ba Market with eight sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, stated that these arrests marked the kickoff of their festive season operations aimed at combating drug-related offenses, indicating that more arrests are anticipated as efforts continue.
