Authorities have made significant strides in their ongoing battle against illicit drug possession, arresting 13 individuals in a series of operations yesterday. Among those arrested were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard, who were taken into custody at the Nadonumai Roadblock for possessing small plastic bags filled with white crystals, suspected to be illegal substances.
In a separate operation in Waiyavi, Lautoka, police apprehended four individuals following a raid on their residence. Officers discovered more white crystals, drug paraphernalia, and cash that is believed to be tied to drug sales.
Further arrests included a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto, found at Sanasana ground with six bags containing white crystals. A 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, was caught at the Ciri Junction Bus shelter with seven branches of a plant believed to be marijuana. Additionally, a 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was arrested at the Nadi Bus Stand area, possessing 161 branches of a plant also believed to be marijuana, along with cash thought to be proceeds from drug sales. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba was arrested near Ba Market Area, found with eight sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, announced that these arrests mark the initiation of the festive season’s law enforcement activities, with expectations of continued operations aimed at curbing drug possession and sales.
This proactive approach by law enforcement offers a hopeful outlook for community safety as authorities ramp up efforts to eliminate drug-related activities during the festive season.
