A total of 13 individuals were taken into custody yesterday during a crackdown on illicit drug possession. Among those arrested were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard, apprehended at the Nadonumai Roadblock with small plastic bags containing white crystals.
In Waiyavi, Lautoka, four people were detained following a police raid at their residence, where authorities discovered white crystalline substances, drug paraphernalia, and cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Additionally, a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto was arrested at Sanasana Grounds after being found in possession of six bags of white crystals.
Further arrests included a 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, who was caught at the Ciri Junction Bus shelter with seven branches of what is suspected to be marijuana. A 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was also arrested at the Nadi Bus Stand after police found 161 branches of suspected marijuana and cash thought to be from drug sales. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was taken into custody at the Ba Market Area, where eight sachets of dried leaves likely containing marijuana were discovered wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, remarked that these arrests mark the initiation of their Festive Season exercise, indicating that further arrest operations are anticipated as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offenses.
