Three men have been remanded in custody by Suva’s Magistrates Court due to serious charges involving the possession of illicit drugs and assault. The accused are Lemeki Baleiwai, aged 29, Maciu Jiuta, aged 27, and Asaeli Susewa, aged 23. They appeared before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza for their hearings.
Baleiwai faces a charge of possessing illicit drugs, specifically marijuana, which was discovered during an operation on November 18, 2024. Meanwhile, Jiuta and Susewa have been charged with seriously assaulting two police officers during the raid.
The Police Prosecutor informed the Court that all necessary disclosures have been provided to the defendants, who have acknowledged receipt of this information. The case has been scheduled for a bail hearing and a mention in Court four on November 29.
