The Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) has received a generous contribution of $4,000 from Pacific Energy for the upcoming Druavesi golf tournament. The donation was formally presented by Amit Maharaj, Pacific Energy’s chief marketing officer, to QVSOB president Alipate Ledua and tournament organizer Sai Tokalau.
This year’s Druavesi tournament, entering its 31st edition, is expected to attract between 80 to 200 golfers from across the country, including participants traveling from as far as Labasa. In a notable change, the tournament will now welcome alumni from various schools, rather than being limited to only QVSOB members. Additionally, the Fiji Golf Club will also have a dedicated team joining the competition.
Ledua expressed sincere appreciation for Pacific Energy’s ongoing support, noting that the company has sponsored the event since 2011. He highlighted the growing interest in the tournament, which is reflected in an increase in participant numbers each year.
Maharaj shared his enthusiasm for incorporating young golfers into the tournament, recognizing last year’s inclusion of secondary school participants as a unique and beneficial aspect. This innovative approach aims to inspire and foster interest among younger players.
Tokalau, the tournament organizer, expressed optimism that the event will encourage more students to get involved in golf. The one-day tournament is scheduled to take place this Friday at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
This event not only highlights the commitment of local organizations like Pacific Energy to supporting community initiatives, but it also fosters a sense of inclusion and growth within the sport of golf. By attracting a diverse group of participants and focusing on the development of young talent, the Druavesi tournament sets a positive tone for the future of golfing in Fiji.
