The Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) recently received a generous $4,000 sponsorship from Pacific Energy for this year’s Druavesi golf tournament. The donation was presented by Amit Maharaj, the chief marketing officer for Pacific Energy, to Alipate Ledua, the president of the QVSOB, along with Sai Tokalau, the tournament organizer.
This year’s Druavesi tournament, entering its 31st year, is expected to attract between 80 to 200 participants, including golfers from various parts of the country, some traveling all the way from Labasa. In a notable shift, the event will now allow alumni from schools all over Fiji to participate, broadening its appeal. The Fiji Golf Club will also field its own team in this competitive event.
Ledua expressed heartfelt appreciation for Pacific Energy’s continuous support, highlighting their partnership that has thrived since 2011. He remarked on the growing interest in the tournament, evident in the increasing number of participants.
Maharaj noted the positive impact of including young secondary school golfers in last year’s competition and emphasized that the initiative adds a unique dimension to the event. Tournament organizer Tokalau shared his hope that this year’s tournament will encourage even more students to get involved in golf.
The exciting one-day tournament is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, and promises to be a thrilling event for all involved.
This partnership and the evolving format of the Druavesi tournament reflect a commitment to community engagement and the development of young golfing talent in Fiji. With each event, the anticipation and participation continue to grow, fostering a love for the sport among new generations.
