Drua’s Path to Victory: Can Home Success Lead to Away Wins?

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is set to play seven home matches in the 2025 Super Rugby season, and the team is eager to establish a winning streak starting with their first home game to improve their chances in away matches as well. Mark Evans, the team’s CEO, highlighted this necessity in a recent interview.

Evans acknowledged the noticeable difference between the team’s home and away performances. “It’s plainly obvious, the contrast between our home form and our away form is very marked,” he stated, adding that it is common for young teams to secure victories at home first.

He pointed out that many players who have progressed from the Drua to the Flying Fijians are now achieving consistent success in away games. “We have many players in the Flying Fijians now, and they’re winning away games quite regularly,” he noted.

Evans expressed optimism that the Drua would soon overcome their inconsistency in away games, as the same players are involved. “I think it’s only a matter of time. I don’t believe it’s a significant psychological block; otherwise, it would show when they play for the national team as well, and it doesn’t seem to have applied.”

In the 2024 season, the Drua struggled, losing eight away games and two at home.
