Drua’s Home Advantage: Can They Conquer Away Games?

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua team aims to establish a winning streak in their seven home matches for the 2025 Super Rugby season to improve their chances of success in away games. Mark Evans, the chief executive officer of the team, highlighted this need in a recent interview.

“It is obvious that there is a significant difference between our performance at home and away,” he remarked. Evans noted that for young teams, it is common to see a trend of securing victories at home before achieving success on the road.

He pointed out that several players from the Drua have moved on to play for the Flying Fijians, who regularly win away matches. “We have numerous players in the Flying Fijians now, and they are consistently winning games overseas,” he stated.

Evans expressed confidence that the Drua’s inconsistent away performances would improve over time. “They are largely the same players, so it is likely just a matter of time,” he said, dismissing the notion that there is a significant psychological barrier affecting their away games. “If there were, we would see it reflected in their performances for the national team, which does not seem to be the case.”

In the 2024 season, the Drua experienced difficulties, losing eight away games and two at home.
