Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s head coach Glen Jackson is optimistic as his team prepares for an important match against the Chiefs, following three consecutive defeats in the Super Rugby Pacific. The Drua narrowly lost their last three matches: 32-36 against the Brumbies, 34-38 to the Hurricanes, and most recently, 24-29 against the Waratahs.
This upcoming match, scheduled for Saturday at 3:35 PM at Lautoka’s Churchill Park, presents a crucial opportunity for the Drua to secure their first win of the season. Jackson emphasized the significance of this victory, stating that the team needs seven wins along with some bonus points to stay competitive in the league. He expressed confidence, noting that returning home should create an exciting atmosphere to support their efforts. “We’ve let ourselves down in some matches, but returning home will create an exciting atmosphere for us,” he remarked.
The coach also acknowledged the heightened competitiveness in the Super Rugby Pacific this season, particularly with the Rebels’ absence, and praised his team’s hard work. The recent weekend off provided a chance for recovery, and Jackson highlighted the contributions of younger players like Livai Natave and Mesake Doge, who demonstrated the team’s depth as impactful substitutes.
Captain Tevita Ikanivere discussed the disappointment of narrowly missed opportunities in close games, stressing the need for improved focus in the upcoming clash against the Chiefs. He encouraged his teammates to learn from past experiences to enhance their performance.
The Drua’s challenge extends beyond overcoming recent losses; they also aim to harness the support of local fans at home. Jackson believes that this will inspire the team to elevate their game, presenting them with the chance to reclaim their momentum and ignite hope among the Fijian rugby community for a successful season ahead.
With their resilience and determination evident, the Drua stands at a pivotal point, and capturing their first win could be a key turning point for the team as they strive to build on their potential moving forward.
