The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua 7s team is set to participate in the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s, taking place at Churchill Park on November 15-16. This decision marks a new direction for the Drua under the leadership of head coach Glen Jackson, who is introducing innovative strategies to enhance the team’s performance.

As part of a plan to keep players competitive during a lengthy preseason, the inclusion of the sevens format serves as an engaging break from traditional training methods. With approximately 25 key players currently touring Europe, the remaining squad members are dedicated to training in Fiji, ensuring they stay sharp and ready for the upcoming challenges.

Drua CEO Mark Evans noted that the sevens format adds excitement and competitiveness, which the players enjoy. The fresh approach aims to keep the team motivated during the off-season and is particularly beneficial for players who remain in Fiji. They will follow a structured training program that lasts until the Christmas break, which will then be resumed for an additional six weeks.

Evans expressed enthusiasm for the changes being implemented by Jackson, stating that they offer a unique opportunity to maintain momentum and add variety to the players’ training. Additionally, he mentioned that the Drua is looking into potential participation in 10s tournaments, which would further diversify their preparation as they aim for a successful season ahead.

This strategic shift demonstrates the Drua’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and competitive environment, paving the way for its players to develop their skills while having fun in the process. The prospects of the upcoming tournaments offer hopeful moments for both players and fans alike, as the team prepares to make an impact in the new season.
