Drua’s Bold Lineup Shake-Up: Can They Turn the Tide Against Hurricanes?

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua have announced a strong lineup for their upcoming Round 2 match against the Hurricanes in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific this Saturday at 3:35 PM in Napier, New Zealand. In a strategic move, coach Glen Jackson has introduced 15 changes from last week’s team to bolster their chances following a narrow defeat to the ACT Brumbies.

Key players in the new lineup include Zuriel Togiatama at hooker, supported by Emosi Tuqiri and Mesake Toge on the front row. The lock positions will feature Isoa Nasilasila and Mesake Vocevoce, while the back row sees Meli Derenalagi and former Fiji under-20 captain Motikiai Murray taking up the flanker roles. Captain Frank Lomani returns as halfback, and Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula will have his first start of the season at flyhalf.

The change in wingers sees the return of Taniela Rakuro from injury on the left and Junior Ratuva on the right. Inia Tabuavou will be making his Super Rugby Pacific debut at inside center, alongside Tuidraki Samusamuvodre outside him. Ilaisa Droasese rounds out the starting lineup at fullback.

On the bench, Jackson has selected Mesulame Dolokoto as backup hooker, while Ravai makes his debut in Drua colors at loosehead prop. Meli Tuni will cover the tighthead prop position, and Leone Rotuisolia will provide depth in the lock positions. Kiti Salawa, at just 20 years old, will back up the loose forward trio, with Peni Matawalu at halfback and Caleb Muntz providing cover at flyhalf. Iosefo Masi is included as a backline utility.

In the lead-up to this match, Jackson has stressed the importance of discipline and effective breakdown management, as highlighted in previous articles discussing the team’s focus on improvement after their initial defeat. The Drua’s previous losses, including their recent match against the Brumbies, showcased the need for better handling and reduced turnovers to challenge a strong Hurricanes side.

Fans are eagerly anticipating this clash, as both teams seek redemption after disappointing season openers. With a passionate following, the Drua are determined to transform their away game narrative and showcase their resilience and potential against one of the competition’s tough competitors. Optimism surrounds the team as they aim for an uplifting victory to instill confidence for the remainder of the season.
