Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada, silver medalists at the 2024 Olympics, are shifting from playing rugby to taking on leadership roles as they join the Fijian Drua 7s for the upcoming Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. Both players are currently rehabilitating from injuries and have been selected to guide their teammates from the coaches’ box.
The Drua will be led on the field by captain Tuidraki Samusamuvodre, supported by experienced players including Joseva Tamani, Kemu Valetini, Epeli Momo, and Ilaisa Droasese. Fijian Drua General Manager Baden Stephenson remarked on the significance of participating in the tournament, highlighting that it offers valuable match experience for the players while also allowing them to enjoy the game.
Stephenson stated, “It’s great for the Drua to be able to participate in the Mataso 7s and we thank the organisers for accommodating us. It will be a timely experience for our players to get some match intensity and put their skills against a field of talented local teams.” Furthermore, he emphasized the personal growth potential for Masi and Ravutaumada, as they can share their wealth of knowledge about 7s rugby while continuing their recovery journey.
The Mataso 7s is scheduled to commence tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka, promising an engaging and spirited competition for both players and fans alike.
