The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken decisive action by suspending the driving licenses of two individuals who were recently featured in controversial videos on social media. These videos showed actions that posed significant risks to public safety.
LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa expressed strong condemnation of the behavior displayed in these videos, emphasizing that it represents a blatant disregard for road safety regulations and the value of human life. Both individuals were summoned to explain their actions as per Regulation 30 of the Land Transport (Driver) Regulations 2000, leading to their license suspension based on the evidence recorded and disseminated online.
The LTA has issued a stern warning to all road users, especially drivers, urging them to refrain from reckless conduct that puts others’ lives in jeopardy. Rokosawa highlighted the seriousness of these actions, stating that what might seem entertaining on social media carries grave consequences in real life. He insisted that reckless driving for self-amusement is not only irresponsible but also constitutes a serious breach of public safety.
Moreover, the authority, in collaboration with the Fiji Police Force and other partners, is committed to promoting a critical message: every life on the road matters. Road safety is a collective responsibility that encompasses drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike, all of whom deserve safe passage.
Rokosawa reiterated that engaging in actions that flout traffic regulations is wholly unacceptable and urged all road users to reflect on their responsibilities to prevent harm.
In summary, the LTA is taking a firm stand against reckless driving, highlighting the importance of collective action to ensure road safety. This proactive approach reflects a growing commitment to protecting lives on the road, instilling greater awareness in the community about the serious implications of irresponsible behavior. It serves as a reminder that adherence to traffic laws is crucial in safeguarding both individuals and families.
