The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken decisive action by suspending the driving licenses of two individuals who were featured in widely circulated videos on social media that depicted dangerous behavior jeopardizing public safety.

LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa criticized the reckless conduct shown in the videos, stating that it is a clear violation of road safety protocols and an affront to human life. The individuals involved were called to a show cause hearing under the Land Transport (Driver) Regulations 2000, resulting in the suspension of their licenses due to the nature of their actions.

Rokosawa emphasized the seriousness of the situation, urging all drivers to recognize the dangers of reckless driving. He pointed out that while some may find such behavior amusing online, the reality is that it can lead to severe consequences and endanger lives. “This reckless driving, framed as a form of entertainment, is deeply irresponsible,” he remarked.

He reiterated the collaborative efforts of the LTA, Fiji Police Force, and various stakeholders to promote road safety, emphasizing that every road user—drivers, passengers, and pedestrians—deserves a safe environment. By calling on all members of the community to take responsibility, Rokosawa reinforced that violating traffic regulations and endangering others is unacceptable.

The positive aspect of this situation is the LTA’s proactive approach to addressing reckless driving, which is crucial for fostering a culture of safety on the roads. The strong message from the authority serves as a reminder that each individual’s actions can significantly impact community safety, encouraging a collective commitment to responsible driving.

In summary, the LTA’s quick response to the irresponsible behavior of the two drivers showcases their dedication to public safety. It is a timely reminder that promoting road safety is a shared responsibility that requires vigilance from everyone who uses the roads.
