The Land Transport Authority has revoked the driving licences of 49 drivers from January to July this year, as reported by Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Filipe Tuisawau, to Parliament. This action was taken due to ongoing violations of traffic regulations, with a total of 106 drivers summoned to explain why their licences should not be cancelled.
Out of the total, 76 drivers in the Central Division, 18 in the West, and 12 in the North faced show-cause proceedings. The outcomes included 49 licences being revoked, nine suspended, 47 drivers receiving warning letters, and one driver receiving counselling.
Tuisawau emphasized that these measures reflect the Land Transport Authority’s dedication to upholding high road safety standards and holding accountable those who repeatedly violate traffic laws. He also noted the government’s intention to enhance road safety through a comprehensive strategy that includes legislative reforms, public awareness initiatives, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
