Draiba Primary School Prepares for Tough Competition in Athletics Showdown

Draiba Primary School, the reigning champion in the girls’ division at the Suva Zone One Primary Schools Athletics competition, is preparing to defend its title this year amidst tougher competition.

Yesterday, over 300 students participated in the school’s Inter-house competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, showcasing their determination to continue their winning legacy. Last year, Draiba Primary School excelled in the girls’ division, securing the top position, while the boys finished in second place behind Marist Primary School.

Ropate Lopeti, the school’s Physical Education teacher, praised the students’ commitment, emphasizing their focus on track events after completing field events earlier in the week. “Preparations are going well for the students. We know that this year will be a tough competition and it’s good to prepare early,” commented Lopeti.

During the inter-house competition, all four houses displayed strong performances, with Rewa House currently in the lead, followed closely by Bau, Verata, and Tovata. Tovata, the red house, was last year’s inter-house champion and is aiming for a repeat victory.

The school plans to complete the inter-house competition before shifting focus to the Suva Zone One meet scheduled for week six. Following that, they will prepare for the Fiji Primary School Athletics meet, expected to take place in week 12 of this term.

Last year, Draiba clinched the overall girls’ title and was also recognized as the overall winner for the Suva Zone One competition. Despite the anticipated challenges from rival schools, Lopeti is confident in their preparations leading up to the week six competition.
