Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), voiced his frustration regarding the delay in the tribunal hearing for his case. The Acting Chief Justice and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Jalesi Temo, previously announced a proposed hearing date. This hearing was set to take place from next Monday to August 30.
However, Mr. Pryde revealed yesterday that he had been informed that the hearing dates have now been postponed. “I have been advised that the proposed tribunal hearing dates of 19 to 31 August 2024 have been vacated,” he stated. He expressed disappointment over the fact that the panel of three judges assigned to examine the allegations against him has yet to provide the necessary disclosures for him to fully understand the charges related to his superannuation.
Mr. Pryde was suspended from his DPP position in April last year, a move he attributed to being seen conversing with the former Attorney General at an official event. A year later, the JSC added accusations of alleged overpayment concerning his superannuation, which he has denied.
He shared his concern about the lack of required disclosures and the tribunal’s failure to set a new hearing date, along with his salary being suspended despite the Prime Minister’s statement that it should continue. “This matter is soon to enter its 17th month with no resolution and with the JSC refusing to discuss the issue of the unilateral suspension of my salary,” Mr. Pryde commented.
