DPP’s Discontent: Postponed Tribunal Hearing Raises Concerns

Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has voiced his frustration regarding the new postponement of the tribunal hearing regarding his case. In a statement released last month, Jalesi Temo, the Acting Chief Justice and Chair of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), announced that Pryde had been informed of the upcoming hearing date. Originally scheduled to take place between next Monday and August 30, the hearing has now been delayed.

Pryde disclosed yesterday afternoon that he has been informed that the hearing dates slated for August 19 to 31, 2024, have been canceled. He expressed disappointment that the three-judge tribunal assigned to assess the allegations against him has yet to provide necessary disclosures for him to understand the charges related to his superannuation.

Last April, Pryde was suspended from his role as DPP, a decision he attributes to being seen conversing with the former Attorney General at an official event. A year later, the JSC introduced an allegation of overpayment regarding his superannuation, a claim he has rejected.

“I am dismayed that I have still not received the required disclosures and the tribunal has yet to set a hearing date, while my salary remains suspended five weeks after the Prime Minister indicated that it should still be paid,” Pryde said, noting that the matter is approaching its 17th month without resolution and that the JSC has refused to engage in discussions regarding the unilateral suspension of his salary.

This publication has reached out to the JSC for comments and is awaiting a response.
