Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, has reached out to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu for a copy of the Tribunal Report concerning allegations of misconduct against him. In his correspondence, Pryde noted that the report was submitted to the President on December 23, 2024. After attempting to obtain the document from the Tribunal and being directed to the President’s office, he submitted a formal request for the report.

Pryde emphasized that according to section 112 (6) of the Constitution, the report must be made public. He also referenced additional constitutional sections stating that the President must act on the Tribunal’s advice and that his suspension should cease if the Tribunal finds insufficient evidence of misbehavior.

He expressed concern about the duration of his suspension, which has lasted nearly 21 months since his removal from the DPP role in April 2023, and mentioned the financial difficulties this has caused him due to his salary being suspended for nearly six months.

In his letter, Pryde urged the President to inform him of the report’s findings, provide him with a copy, and to lift his suspension and reinstate his salary if the allegations are deemed unfounded.

This situation underscores the importance of due process and transparency in public office, highlighting how legal and constitutional frameworks can protect individuals from prolonged uncertainty and financial strain. It serves as a reminder of the critical balance between maintaining high ethical standards within governmental roles and ensuring that public officials are treated fairly.

As this situation unfolds, there remains hope for a resolution that upholds justice and restores Pryde to his position, providing an opportunity for him to continue serving in his role effectively.
