DPP Director Demands Tribunal Report Amid Ongoing Suspension Saga

Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, has formally reached out to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to request access to the Tribunal Report regarding allegations of misconduct against him. In his correspondence, Pryde noted that he had been informed the report was submitted to the President on December 23, 2024, and that when he contacted the Tribunal for a copy, he was directed to the President’s office.

In his letter, Pryde emphasized the constitutional requirement for the report to be made public, highlighting that it is a mandatory obligation rather than a discretionary action. He referenced specific sections of the Constitution that detail the President’s role in dealing with the Tribunal’s recommendations and the procedure regarding his suspension.

Pryde expressed concern over the length of time he has been suspended, stating that it has been nearly 21 months since his suspension began in April 2023 and around six months since his salary was halted, leading to considerable financial hardship. He urged for a swift resolution, especially since the Tribunal’s investigation has concluded.

In his request to the President, he asked for three specific actions: to inform him of the report’s outcome, to provide him with a copy of the report and permit its publication, and to lift his suspension if the report indicates insufficient evidence of misconduct, allowing for his immediate reinstatement and restoration of his salary.

This situation highlights significant issues surrounding transparency and the timely resolution of allegations within governmental procedures. It is hoped that the President’s office will respond promptly, providing closure to Pryde after an extended period of uncertainty, which could lead to a potential reinstatement for him.

Summary: Christopher Pryde has requested the Tribunal Report from President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu concerning allegations against him. He emphasizes constitutional requirements for transparency and calls for his reinstatement if the evidence does not support the allegations.
