“Double Standards Exposed: Opposition Slams Coalition’s Governance Hypocrisy”

Spread the love

The Coalition Government is facing criticism for a perceived lack of clear principles and policies that promote effective governance, as highlighted by senior Opposition MP Premila Kumar.

In a recent statement, Kumar condemned the government’s decision to place Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa on extended leave amid an investigation. Meanwhile, Barbara Malimali remains in her post as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), despite an ongoing Commission of Inquiry that is being conducted privately.

Kumar expressed her concerns about what she described as a double standard, questioning the rationale behind sidelining one individual while allowing another to maintain their authority. She emphasized that this inconsistency exposes deeper issues within the government, particularly the appointment of political allies and failing election candidates to influential positions without regard for their qualifications or expertise.

Inia Seruiratu, the Leader of the Opposition, supported Kumar’s remarks, stating that the actions demonstrate a pattern of inconsistency within the Coalition Government.

This situation highlights the importance of integrity and transparency in governance. A government that adheres strictly to principles and policies will likely foster public trust and create a fairer political environment. It is crucial for leaders to hold themselves accountable and ensure that all officials are treated equally under the law.

The hope is that these criticisms will encourage the government to reevaluate its practices and adopt a more consistent approach to governance, ultimately benefiting the citizens they serve.
