The DOMINION Brothers triumphed over the PSM Aflame Bros with a narrow 14-12 victory, securing the men’s cup trophy at the Fiji Sports Council’s under-20 sevens rugby tournament held at Thomson Park in Navua yesterday. The match was characterized by fierce competition, with both teams fiercely vying for the win as the day’s competition drew to a close under a setting sun.
This thrilling final highlighted the exceptional performances of all teams in the five-leg tournament, showcasing the talent and determination of young athletes. Manasa Mata, the manager of the winning Dominion Brothers, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the players, emphasizing their dedication and hard work.
Mata shared that the team came together with the intention of using rugby sevens as a means to support their families, demonstrating their commitment to both the sport and their loved ones. “We gathered the players and focused on developing their talents and skills so they could not only excel in rugby but also become good role models for their families and teams,” Mata stated. The players, aged between 17 and 19, benefitted from a collaborative effort between the Fiji Sports Council and the Fiji Rugby Union, allowing them the opportunity to compete in this tournament.
As a reward for their efforts, the Dominion Brothers took home $3,500 in prize money. The tournament’s momentum will continue, with the next event scheduled for next week at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
