DOMINION Brothers secured a thrilling 14-12 victory over PSM Aflame Bros, clinching the cup trophy in the men’s category at the Fiji Sports Council under-20 sevens rugby tournament held at Thomson Park in Navua yesterday.
In a match filled with anticipation, both teams showcased their determination, battling fiercely until the end as the sun set on their day of competition. This exhilarating final was the highlight of a tournament that brought out strong performances from various teams across the five-leg series.
Manasa Mata, the manager of the Dominion Brothers, expressed deep appreciation for his players, thanking them for their hard work and dedication which culminated in the win. “I am so thankful to them for the win and for giving their time and effort to show their talents,” Mata stated, underlining the importance of the players’ commitment.
He shared that the team was formed with the understanding that participating in sevens rugby could help improve their lives and support their families. With the support of officials, the players were given the opportunity to develop their skills and character. Mata noted that the players, all born between 2004 and 2006, could compete effectively thanks to the collaboration between the Fiji Sports Council and the Fiji Rugby Union, who organized this valuable competition.
As champions, the team took home $3,500 in prize money, which highlights the financial incentives offered to young athletes in these tournaments. The excitement does not end here, as the tournament is set to continue next week with its second leg at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, promising more thrilling rugby action for fans and participants alike.
