Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Professor Biman Prasad, spoke about the significance of Deepavali or Diwali in a recent message where he emphasized the importance of rejuvenating the values of truth, justice, and righteousness to secure a brighter future for Fiji.
Reflecting on the occasion, Prasad noted that while Fiji enjoys restored freedoms and rights since the Coalition Government took office in December 2022, it is crucial to remember that such privileges must be actively protected. He drew a parallel between the governance principles embodied by Lord Ram after defeating evil in Ayodhya and the current Coalition’s commitment to uphold fundamental freedoms.
Prasad highlighted that the essence of Diwali should be integrated into everyday life, citing the 14-year exile of Lord Ram and his successful return to establish a just and accountable government, known as Ram Rajya. He indicated that this reflects the Coalition Government’s efforts to foster a culture of integrity and transparency for the benefit of all citizens, despite acknowledging some challenges faced during their transition from a lengthy period of dictatorship.
He reiterated the importance of the guiding lights of Diwali, likening them to the hope, peace, and glory that symbolize progress and prosperity for the people. Prasad expressed the Coalition Government’s commitment to prioritize meaningful solutions that prioritize people’s needs, following the example set by Lord Ram: self-sacrifice for the long-term good rather than short-term fixes.
The message brings a hopeful perspective on governance in Fiji, reaffirming the Coalition’s dedication to working collaboratively to achieve consensus-driven solutions for the betterment of society.
In summary, Professor Prasad’s message during Diwali highlights the importance of values like truth and justice, connects them to the government’s principles, and emphasizes a commitment to the welfare of the people as a guiding light for Fiji’s future.
