This year’s Diwali will be quite different for the Prasad family due to damage caused by a landslide over the weekend. Last Saturday morning, Rajeev Prasad and his family had to flee their house when a section of the hill next to their property collapsed onto their modest home, forcing them to seek shelter with neighbors.
Rajeev expressed that they would not be celebrating Diwali in a lavish manner this year, stating, “We had cleaned the house for Diwali and were planning to start making sweets from this week, but now we can’t do anything.” He referred to this year’s festivities as “memorable” because their home has been left in disarray, filled with mud and chaos.
The family suffered significant losses, with their home and belongings valued at approximately $20,000 damaged. Despite the circumstances, the 37-year-old mentioned that they would hold a prayer session since their prayer room remained intact.
