The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), in collaboration with the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, has launched a joint initiative aimed at promoting sustainable practices during the upcoming Diwali festival. This initiative seeks to raise consumer awareness in alignment with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.

To achieve this goal, the two organizations have begun disseminating regular messages that encourage actions such as minimizing waste, conserving energy and water, making ethical shopping choices, adopting environmentally friendly practices, and supporting communications that highlight the significance of sustainability.

FCCC CEO Joel Abraham expressed that this partnership reflects a strong commitment to creating an inclusive, ethical, and environmentally conscious marketplace for Fijians. He emphasized the importance of addressing both cultural and religious needs during this significant period, ensuring that Diwali is celebrated in an environmentally responsible manner.

Dhirendra Nand, National President of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, highlighted that this collaboration underscores the dedication of both organizations to Environmental, Social, and Governance goals. He noted that it provides an opportunity to increase awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and inspire the community towards a greener future.

The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji also stressed the value of utilizing this festive occasion to demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship and the promotion of sustainable practices, in addition to spiritual reflection. Nand remarked, “Our aim is to inspire and foster positive transformation that goes beyond the celebration of Diwali, advocating for sustainability and responsible consumption year-round.”

This initiative not only showcases a commitment to sustainability amid festivities but also encourages the community to develop a long-term mindset regarding environmental responsibility. As more organizations take similar steps to intertwine cultural celebrations with sustainability, there is hope for a positive impact on both the community and the environment.
