As Diwali approaches, the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources has issued a notice regarding the use of fireworks, stating they may only be detonated from 5 PM to midnight on November 1. This regulation aims to enhance safety for children and the surrounding community during the festive celebrations.
The ministry has classified fireworks within the United Nations Hazard Classification System as Class 13 and 14, indicating that adult supervision is essential when children are involved in activities with fireworks. It’s important to note that homemade fireworks, such as bamboo guns, are illegal, and only individuals aged 18 and older are permitted to purchase fireworks.
In addition, parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to avoid smoking or consuming alcohol while handling these explosive materials. Fireworks should be ignited away from homes, buildings, vehicles, and other potential fire hazards.
This initiative reflects a commitment to safety during one of the most vibrant and joyful festivals of the year, ensuring that families can celebrate Diwali with enjoyment while prioritizing the well-being of everyone in the community. By adhering to these guidelines, we can collectively make this Diwali a safe and memorable occasion for all.
