Disturbing Trend: More Girls Victimized in Child Crimes

Police have reported that in September, there were more incidents of crimes against children involving girls than boys. According to their statement, a total of 117 cases were recorded for the month, with 90 victims identified as girls and 27 as boys. The breakdown of these cases shows that 66% were sexual offenses, 29% were related to assault, and the remaining 5% were classified under other offenses.

The police noted that while the Western and Central divisions experienced decreases in crimes against children by 47% and 29%, respectively, other divisions saw an increase. Approximately 15% of the cases were related to domestic situations involving relationships such as parent-child and uncle-niece/nephew.

The rise in overall crimes against children was largely attributed to an uptick in assault cases causing actual bodily harm, which increased from 18 to 26 incidents.
