There are 4,680 people with disabilities registered in the Western Division under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection. This information was shared by Acting Principal Welfare Officer West, Clement Dari, during the Annual General Meeting of the Western Disabled People’s Association on Saturday.

Dari noted that there are a total of 39,878 individuals nationwide receiving assistance through the Social Protection program, which includes disability allowances and senior pensions, with 12 percent of that funding allocated specifically for individuals with disabilities.

He emphasized the government’s dedication to providing essential services for people with disabilities. “The District Council of Disabled Persons is established in all towns within the Western Division, and we have disability officers at every welfare office,” he stated.

Dari also encouraged members of the Western Disabled People’s Association to collaborate on community awareness initiatives. “If you wish to conduct any community awareness activities, involve us, and we can work together in an integrated manner,” he suggested.

Additionally, he urged anyone who knows of someone in the community not receiving disability allowances to reach out for assistance. “Please contact us, and we can help them,” he added.
